Lead Teacher of Swimming – Durham School
The Durham School Learn to Swim programme is a well-established swimming development scheme which is designed to teach and develop swimming skills and techniques. Durham School follows the ASA Learn to Swim pathway and offers a number of classes which young swimmers can progress through the levels. Class sizes are small and all lessons are delivered in the Durham School Swimming pool. The programme consists of classes for children aimed at beginners, improvers and intermediate swimmers and also offers the RLSS Rookie Lifeguard Qualification. During term time, lessons take place between 8.45am – 1.00pm on a Saturday and Wednesday evenings between 6.00pm – 8.00pm. During the Summer and Easter holidays, week long courses are delivered on week day mornings.
Durham School seeks to appoint a Lead Swimming Teacher to organise and deliver the weekly Community Swimming Programme. The Lead Teacher will plan, co-ordinate and ensure the delivery of a quality swim programme overseeing a small team of assistant swimming teachers.
It is essential that the successful applicant can lead the Wednesday and Saturday classes and ideally the holiday courses, however it is not essential to be available for the holiday courses.
Applicants must hold the ASA Level 2 Swimming Teacher or the ASA Level 2 Diploma in Coaching Learn to Swim and be up to date in current teaching techniques. The RLSS Pool Lifeguard or National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) would be desirable. If you are currently in the process of completing this level qualification and hold the ASA Level 1 please still apply. The successful applicant will be well organised, works well with children and parents and can ensure the smooth running of the swim programme. Support from the Finance Office for bookings and Marketing Department for publicising the programme is available.
Full details of the application process can be found on the website: www.durhamschool.co.uk. If you require any further information about the post, please contact Mrs Kath Rochester on 0191 731 9270 ext 313307 or k.rochester@durhamschool.co.uk
