Whole Sport Plan

Sport England funds national governing bodies to deliver their three outcomes - grow, sustain and excel and provides additional support to help them achieve this. Each sport has developed a Whole Sport Plan that explains how it plans to achieve these targets. This summary also helps partners identify possible opportunities to work together.

Sport factsheets

In June 2008, Sport England published sport factsheets which highlight detailed results from Active People Survey 4 for each of Sport England's NGB 09-13 funded sports and include demographic breakdowns, regional breakdowns and frequency of participation data, providing insight into the profile of sports participants.

Back to Hockey

Back to Hockey has been developed by England Hockey to enable women and girls, over 16, "refresh, relearn and replay" hockey. Sessions are coach led and cover basic skill development and gameplay. The emphasis of these sessions is on learning new skills and having fun playing hockey with friends. Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or about becoming more active, these sessions cater for all abilities.

Rush Hockey

Rush Hockey is the new, flexible, small sided hockey game for adults. It can be played in mixed or single gender teams, indoors or outdoors and on pitches of varying surfaces and sizes. Teams are 5 a side (occasionally 4 a side on a small pitch) with squads of up to 7 players. It is played with a standard hockey stick, but has unique goals and balls. The rules are very simple and the games are self umpired.

Rush Hockey can be played in a league, regular weekly sessions, one off tournaments or by groups hiring a pitch and the Rush Hockey equipment.

It's fast, furious and fun and a great way to get fit!

In2Hockey

In September 2011, Mini Hockey was re-launched as a new 2-staged game called In2Hockey. In2Hockey has been designed primarily for 10 to 14 year olds, to help them develop their hockey skills and techniques, and to provide a gradual progression into the 11 a-side version of the game. It can be played as a 7 a-side game with goalkeepers, or introduced as a 6 a-side game without goalkeepers. As per Mini Hockey, it is played on an area the size of half a hockey pitch.

The rules of the 7 a-side game are the same as the rules of mini hockey were last season. A new set of rules have been developed alongside for the 6 a-side game, to help bridge the gap from Quicksticks. The 6 a-side rules gradually introduce three key features of the 11 a-side version of the game - goalkeepers, penalty corners and penalty strokes. The aim is to ease the young players' transition, and also to make the game easier for secondary schools, and non-hockey specialist teachers to deliver.

Quicksticks

Quicksticks is a 4 a side introductory game of hockey, designed especially for 7-11 year olds to play. It can be played on any surface, and uses a larger, lighter and safer ball. The game is designed in a way that makes it easy for teachers and coaches to deliver, even if they have little or no prior knowledge of hockey.

Quicksticks is fun, fast, safe and exciting and has been designed so that teachers with little or no hockey knowledge or background can deliver the game.
