Young Sports Volunteers Launch Regional Academy

Leadership Academy

Eleven young volunteers from across County Durham came together for the launch of the County Durham Sport Regional Leadership Academy at St Hild & Bede College, Durham University on Thursday 10 June 2010. The Academy aims to support and develop the skills of young people with a commitment and passion for volunteering in sport.

The students took part in teambuilding activities then listened to James Oliver, who has himself completed over 200 hours of volunteering as a student, deliver an inspirational speech about both the personal benefits of his work as well as the positive impact on local schools and clubs.

All attendees were given a bag of Leadership Academy and County Durham Sport goodies to take away with them including whistles, water bottles, notebooks and pens: all essential items to help them with their volunteering in sport. They will also be provided with a sports kit branded with the Leadership Academy logo. County Durham Sport would like to thank all the volunteers involved in the Leadership and Volunteering scheme for their hard work and dedication.
