Thunder are 2011 Community Club of the Year!
Gateshead Thunder are delighted to announce that they are the winners of the 2011 The Co-operative Championships Community Programme of the Year.
Thunder received the prestigious award at the 2011 The Co-operative Championship Awards Dinner on Tuesday 27 September at a glittering event at New Century House, Manchester - the home of The Co-operative.
Gateshead narrowly won the award ahead of the other nominees Featherstone Rovers, York City Knights & Workington Town - all who have shown great strides and developments within their respective communities and development programmes.
Thunder were awarded with the accolade for their continued efforts to increase the sport's profile in the North East. Thunder have undertaken some groundbreaking work with the deaf community in 2011 and their continued efforts alongside North East Rugby League have seen the amount of club rugby league teams double in the last two years in the region.
