Sedgefield Sportsability Club Achieves Clubmark
Sedgefield Sportsability club has become the first multi-skill inclusion club in County Durham to receive Clubmark.
Clubmark is a national accreditation that recognises that clubs operate a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards.
Sedgefield Sportsability club offers disabled children from the ages of 5-16 the opportunity to try a number of sports such as new age kurling, boccia, ball games and much more.
The club was set up in partnership with Sedgefield Borough Council, Sedgefield School Sports Partnership and the English Federation for Disability Sport.
The club was supported through the accreditation process by County Durham Sport and accredited through the North East Clubmark panel, which is made up of County Durham Sport, Tees Valley Sport, Tyne and Wear Sport and Northumberland Sport.
Samantha Morgan, Club & Volunteer Development Officer at Durham County Council says: "Clubmark status gives us tangible benefits such as an increase in membership, which gives parents confidence in choosing a club for their children. The culture that Clubmark promotes boosts the morale and ensures that volunteers are recognised for their contributions. In conclusion accreditation has encouraged the club to adopt better more organised systems and structures thus helping sportsability multi sports club to run more effectively and efficiently."
Catherine Watson, Development Officer at County Durham Sport says: "We would like to congratulate Sedgefield Sportsability club on achieving Clubmark status. It highlights the hard work of all those involved to make the club a safe and fun environment for children to develop and play."
