North East Girls Come Out on Top

Both teams with Head Coach Lee Carbutt and assistant Siobhan McHugh

Saturday 24 September saw the first ever junior girls team play a competitive fixture from the North East. Girls from both Whitley Bay u14s and Cramlington Rockets u16s travelled down to Greetland in Yorkshire to play against some of the country's best teams.

Cramlington girls played 3 really tough games and competed well in all three, losing narrowly in 2 and giving Castleford Panthers the toughest game of the day. The girls were then training the next day and already looking for ways to improve and get better ahead of their next fixture on Saturday 1 October at Peterlee.

Whitley Bay were crowned festival champions after winning the last 2 and drawing their 1st game. The girls played really well in all 3 games and combined some strong defence with some open attractive rugby. The girls are now beginning to form a strong bond and also can't wait for their next fixture at Peterlee.

Community Rugby League Coach Lee Carbutt stated " Both clubs should be immensely proud of backing girls rugby league in the area and giving it their full support. This is a magnificent achievement from both clubs being able to field the first ever Girls junior teams from the North East. Training at both teams has been going really well and the girls love playing rugby league. Girls rugby league is becoming very popular in North Tyneside and Northumberland and both clubs are at the forefront of girls development".
