Finchale Exercise their Demons

Rugby League Festival

On Thursday 1 July, the Rugby Football League in conjunction with Durham City Schools Sport Partnership held a primary schools competition at Framwellgate School Durham.

Most of the schools had previously received Rugby League coaching from Community Rugby League Coach Karl Stephenson providing them with opportunity to compete in the competition. In total 14 teams competed on the day from throughout Durham City.

All the fixtures throughout the afternoon were extremely close and the players performed to an exceptionally high standard. After four hard fought group competitions the semi finals were made up of Finchale v Blue Coat CofE and Silvertree v Ludworth.

After two close semi finals Finchale and Silvertree progressed to play in the Final with Finchale proving too strong on the day.

Robin Peers, Talent Coach Officer stated:

"It was great to see so many schools taking part and there were definitely some stars of the future on show. I'm hoping that lots of the children now progress to play rugby league at the Durham Demons club. With rugby league now being played in the summer it gives children who play traditional winter sports the chance to give rugby league a go."

Due to the success and talent on show during the day Durham Demons are looking to start an under 11's (Year 5 & 6) side based at Framwellgate School Durham. The team will begin to train on Saturday mornings starting this Saturday (10 July). Training will be 10-11.30am and games will be on Saturday mornings too. If you are interested in becoming involved please contact Karl Stephenson on 07810 654532 or karl.stephenson@dgsc.org.uk
