England Athletics 2011 Awards
The 2011 England Athletics Regional and National Awards provide a unique opportunity to recognise the outstanding contributions made to our sport by the people who give their time, energy and expertise on a voluntary basis.
Who is it who has helped you along the way? The volunteers who run the sport are very often the unsung heroes of athletics. Behind any successful performance are numerous people who have given their time and effort to help the athlete on their way. The athlete's hard work and effort has to be supported by many people who often remain in the background; volunteers who have usually helped many other people to become involved and to develop in the sport.
Many of these volunteers - coaches, club volunteers or officials - are the same ones who are now getting the sport into a state of readiness for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. They are ensuring that athletics will make the most of the opportunities the Games present and remain a welcoming, vibrant and successful sport long into the future.
The annual awards for volunteers see winners chosen in ten categories, at both regional and national level. These awards cover clubs, volunteers, officials, coaches, disability athletics and athletics networks.
The awards, which are supported by Sweatshop, Athletics Weekly and Sunwise, give the sport the opportunity to reward the contributions and commitment to our sport these people have shown over the past 12-month period. There are also a more limited number of lifetime service awards.
