Durham player called up for England

Kane Young in action

England Rugby League Youth coach Dave Elliott has named his 42-strong squads for the 2012 season, which includes Durham Tigers player Kane Young. Kane is now in the North East Rugby League Scholarship as Under 15s.

Elliott guided the side to victory over their French counterparts earlier this year and with the Youth team set to continue their traditional Easter rivalry against France, 2012 promises to be a big year for English Rugby League.

"The Youth side includes a lot of newcomers to the international environment and that helps keep us on our toes as staff because we have to make it fresh and interesting for the lads every time we come together," said Elliott.

"It's a real honour for me to work with all these young professionals and it makes me very proud to see how they progress and develop."

"It's great to be able to work with these players and they are all very keen to push themselves with an eye on Steve McNamara's England Training squads so it keeps me working hard to try and give these players the tools to try and better themselves."

Andy Kelly, RFL Talent Coach Manager for the North East stated, ""He has been in the system for a number of years now and for him to reach this honour and be regarded as one of the top 40 players for his age in the country is a fantastic effort. Kane has been a standout for Durham Tigers and the North East regional squad and always showed plenty of promise.

"His selection this year on the North East Scholarship programme was well deserved. Kane is going in the right direction and we are sure he will grab this opportunity with both hands."

Durham Tigers Vice Chairman, Matthew Styran stated, "I would like to express my congratulations to Kane and his family and also to all the coaches at the Durham Tigers who work very hard to achieve results with every player in all our squads.

"This just shows that the North East Rugby League Community has a lot to offer and has a lot of talented players and coaches."
