Durham Phoenix Fencing Club Achieve Clubmark
With the support of County Durham Sport, Durham Phoenix Fencing Club recently became the first fencing club in the North East and the 10th fencing club in the country to receive Clubmark accreditation through England Fencing.
Clubmark was introduced in 2002 by Sport England to:
- Ensure that accrediting partners apply core common criteria to ensure that consistent good practice and minimum operating standards are delivered through all club development and accreditation schemes.
- Enable parent(s)/carer(s) to make informed decisions when choosing a club for their children.
- Ensure that Clubmark accredited clubs are recognised through a common approach to branding.
- Provide a focus around which all organisations involved in sport can come together to support good practice in sports clubs working with children and young people.
Rodney Francis, Development Co-ordinator at England Fencing said, "We want to ensure that parents are assured that their children belong to a safe club and members are sure their club is a well managed club, striving to offer the best in coaching and sports development. Durham Phoenix Fencing Club has clearly demonstrated it follows best practice in everything they do."
Coach Chris Morton said: "Throughout the process of achieving Clubmark, we realised how necessary it was to ensure our club was run well. We hope this achievement will help to grow our members, as well as discover more funding opportunities."
