County Durham Next Step Trampoline Competition

197 Bouncing Enthusiasts!

The first ever Next Step Trampoline Competition in County Durham was held on Monday 22 March at The Louisa Centre, Stanley. School pupils from seventeen schools across the county had prepared routines to perform at the competition. The event was organised by the Competition Manager Team alongside representatives from British Gymnastics, Schools Sport Partnerships and Louisa All Stars Trampoline Club. This new competition is aimed at increasing the opportunity for competition for pupils who would not normally attend Trampoline Clubs. One hundred and ninety seven pupils took part in the event and demonstrated their abilities to 4 different panels of judges. The competition was categorized by key stage, sex and ability with a separate category for experienced competitors.

It was fantastic to have the support of the resident trampoline club who provided many of the judges voluntarily for the event. Pupils were entered into both individual and team competitions and prizes were presented at the conclusion of the event. All gymnasts were also treated to a demonstration performance from elite performers Emily Talbot (U11 National Champion) and Gemma Proud (U19 National Champion). It is hoped that this would encourage pupils to further their interest in the sport by joining local clubs. Schools taking part in the event were: St John's Catholic School, King James 1 Community Arts College, Parkside, Bishop Barrington, Greenfield School Community and Art College, Easington Community Science College, Framwellgate School, Durham Gilesgate, Greencroft Business and Enterprize Community, Tanfield, St Bede's Catholic School, Stanley School of Technology, Moorside Community Technology College, Consett Community Sports College, Roseberry Sport and Community College, The Hermitage School, and Park View Community School.

It is hoped that this event would become an annual activity with increasing interest in the years to come. Thank you to all who assisted on the day.
