Congratulations to Durham Phoenix Fencing Club

Congratulations to Durham Phoenix Fencing Club who have been awarded funding from Sport England Small Grants Scheme.

The club, who also achieved Clubmark in 2010, is based at Gilesgate Community College and Sixth form in Durham City. Chris Morton, Head Coach stated: "Three of the clubs coaches currently coach in various after school clubs in Durham City, East Durham and South Tyneside. The plan is that as more schools in these areas offer fencing, more children and their parents will take ups the sport in an official fencing club".

The club applied for the grant to set up a satellite fencing club in East Durham area making the sport more accessible to County. They are looking to start the satellite club in March once the surrounding schools have completed their taster sessions and the equipment has been purchased. They also plan to use their funding to enhance the qualifications of the current coaches and buy new equipment, which will allow the club to enter more competitions.
