Cestria Girls win Peace Cup

Peace Cup Photo

The weekend of September 11 saw Cestria Girls under 15's travel to London to take part in the MTG Peace Cup. The tournament is organised by the MTG television group, basically the european version of Sky TV.

The winners of the competition were to recieve an all expenses paid trip to Oslo, Norway to play in the World Peace Cup in October and represent England against the winning teams from other countries such as Denmark, Norway, Russia, Ghana, Sweden and several other countries.

With teams such as Fulham and West Ham in the groups it was always going to be a difficult task, but on the day the team probably produced their best performances in their time together and after beating Fulham in the semi final they won against Senrab ladies (who boast John Terry, Sol campbell, and a host of other Premier League stars coming through their boys ranks) in the final. Indeed an Arsenal academy coach questioned why several of the girls had not been picked up at international level.

The success of this cup adds to the League, league cup, county cup and a european title the girls have achieved this season, as well as the prestigious Loch Lomond international cup in Scotland over the summer.

The girls train extremely hard twice a week, never missing a session and these are the just rewards for their efforts. A group of about 25 players and parents (who are a magnificent support to the girls) will be heading out to Norway. The experiences they are now getting should give them some wonderful memories for the future.
