BB National Table Tennis Finals
The National Table Tennis Final 2011 was hosted by the 2nd Consett Company at Belle Vue Leisure Centre.
Teams representing England (4th Southampton, 1st Kempston & 1st Burton-in-Kendal), Scotland (44th Glasgow & 8th Falkirk) and Northern and the Republic of Ireland (3rd Kilkeel) travelled many miles to The Land of the Prince Bishops and the former steel town of Consett.
The teams were welcomed to Consett and the Finals by Colin Carroll, Captain of 2nd Consett, before the President of the North West Battalion led everyone in opening devotions.
The competition started at 9:30am and the opening games set the tone for the day. The standard of the Table Tennis was outstanding and the sportsmanship shown by the competing teams was excellent.
The groups finished with 1st Burton-in-Kendal and 44th Glasgow as groups leaders and 8th Falkirk and 4th Southampton as the runner ups.
The results of the groups meant the we had an all English and an all Scottish semi final. 44th Glasgow and 1st Burton-in-Kendal progressed to the final.
All of the position determining matches we very close and all finished 5-4. The eventual winners, 44th Glasgow, only triumphing in the ninth game of their match with Burton-in-Kendall.
