Aviva Sportshall Secondary County Durham Final

Aviva Sportshall Secondary County Durham Final

On Tuesday 19 January 2010, the County Durham Competition Managers hosted the Aviva Sportshall Secondary County Durham Final at the Louisa Centre, Stanley. Ten schools represented their School Sport Partnerships (Chester-le-Street, Derwentside, Durham City, Sedgefield and Wear Valley & Teesdale) in the following categories: Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls, Year 8 Boys and Year 8 Girls.

The event, run by the Sportshall Team on behalf of UK Athletics and supported by Eveque, provided some of the children their first ever competitive athletic experience and others a return to this enjoyable team-based event. All were following in the footsteps of previous sportshall winners such as Mark Lewis-Francis, Kelly Sotherton, Denise Lewis, Jade Johnson and Martyn Rooney. It just shows that this competition really can be a stepping stone for our young athletes to achieve their dreams!

The final results were as follows:

Year 7 Boys

Winners: Park View (representing Chester-le-Street SSP)

Runners Up: Belmont (representing Durham City SSP)

Year 7 Girls

Winners: Belmont (representing Durham City SSP)

Runners Up: St. John’s (representing Wear Valley & Teesdale SSP)

Year 8 Boys

Winners: Park View (representing Chester-le-Street SSP)

Runners Up: Ferryhill (representing Sedgefield SSP)

Year 8 Girls

Winners: Park View (representing Chester-le-Street SSP)

Runners Up: St. John’s (representing Wear Valley & Teesdale SSP)

Both the Winners and Runners up in the Year 8 categories will now represent County Durham at the North East Region Secondary Sportshall Final being hosted for the first time this year in County Durham at the Louisa Centre, Stanley on 24 February from 1.30-3.30pm. Good luck to those teams and let’s hope we see some of the Year 7 Teams back again next year!
