Aerobathon Success for Easington Group
A group of girls from Easington took part in an Aerobathon recently to raise money for the NSPCC.
The girls took part in the charity aerobathon as part of the Unlimited Combat project organised by County Durham Sport. The Unlimited Combat project is one of a number of projects funded through Sport Unlimited, designed to encourage 16-19 year olds who may not necessarily be engaged in sport and physical activity to become involved.
The project was open to all 16-19 year olds in County Durham and those who signed up were able to attend eight free exercise classes within a Durham County Council leisure centre. The project culminated in an Aerobathon organised by the NSPCC where those involved were able to put their new skill into practice by taking part in body combat, circuits and bootcamp sessions.
Catherine Watson, Development Officer for County Durham Sport said: "The Unlimited Combat project was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to take part in an activity they may not have had to the opportunity to try before. By giving the girls access to a number of exercises classes, they could make their own choice on which classes to attend and holding classes at local leisure centres ensures the girls already know the facility. All of these things break down the barriers to participation and hopefully set the girls on the path to lifelong participation."
County Durham Sport will be holding similar events for 16-19 year olds until March 2011. Keep an eye on this website for more information.
