Award Criteria 2009
Please note that ALL nominations for ALL of the categories should be based on the academic year 2008/2009 (i.e. 1 September 2008 – 31 August 2009)
SPORT AWARDS
Coach of the Year (over 21)
For an individual who has demonstrated their commitment and passion through coaching in sport. This person will be seen as an inspiration within their role as a coach and have made a positive impact on those they have coached.
- Must have an NGB Level 2 Coaching Qualification as a minimum
- Must have an enhanced CRB disclosure
Young Coach of the Year (under 21 as of 31/8/09)
For a young individual who has demonstrated their commitment and passion through coaching in sport. This young person will be seen as an inspiration within their role as a coach and have made a positive impact on those they have coached.
- Must have an NGB Level 1 Coaching Qualification as a minimum
- Must have an enhanced CRB disclosure
- Must be under 21 as of 31/08/09
Sports Club of the Year
For a sports club that has demonstrated commitment and passion to sport through the activities and opportunities they provide for their members.
- Must be NGB Accredited OR actively working towards accreditation
Junior Sports Club of the Year
For a sports club that has demonstrated commitment and passion to sport through the activities and opportunities they provide for their junior members.
- Must have an Under 18 section
- Must be NGB Accredited OR actively working towards accreditation
Sporting Achievement of the Year
For an individual or group that has achieved a specific goal in sport whilst facing personal barriers and challenges. They will be seen as an inspiration to others in overcoming their difficulties and achieving their results through sport.
Contribution to Sport
For an individual that has achieved success at county level or above through competing, coaching or volunteering in sport or made a significant difference to individuals or groups through their contribution to sport in County Durham. This person will be seen as a role model within their sport or community.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AWARDS
Physical Activity Achievement of the Year
For an individual or group that has achieved a specific goal through leading an active lifestyle whilst facing personal barriers and challenges. They will be seen as an inspiration to others in overcoming their difficulties and achieving their results.
Contribution to Physical Activity
For an individual or group that has made a significant difference in County Durham through demonstrating the positive impact physical activity can have on people’s lives. They will be seen as a role model for their contribution within their community.
COMBINED SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AWARDS
Volunteer of the Year (over 21)
For an individual who works behind the scenes in a sports club or community group. Their role will be vital and without them the club or group would not be the same.
- Must be actively volunteering within County Durham in a sports or physical activity related role other than coaching (this does not exclude coaches but they will judged predominantly on their other volunteering roles)
Young Volunteer of the Year (under 21 as of 31/8/09)

SCHOOL AWARDS
Primary School Contribution to PE and School Sport
For a Primary School that has demonstrated a positive impact on the community through sport, shows high quality and innovation in the delivery of PE and/or displays a commitment to developing opportunities for pupils through school teams.
Secondary School Contribution to PE and School Sport
For a Secondary School that has demonstrated a positive impact on the community through sport, shows high quality and innovation in the delivery of PE and/or displays a commitment to developing opportunities for pupils through school teams.
