Contribution to Physical Activity (sponsored by Westbourne Medical Group)
Trainers (Coundon Legacy Gym) - Wear Valley & Teesdale

Trainers is a community fitness suite established in Coundon (Bishop Auckland) as a legacy of the Durham County Leisure Wellness on Wheels project, managed and supervised entirely by trained volunteers from the local community - a fantastic example of how a community can work together and support each other.

Physical Activity Achievement of the Year (sponsored by NHS County Durham & Darlington)
Kyle Hindle - Easington

Kyle has been actively involved in a number of physical activities offered by the Active Lives programme, making outstanding progress with confidence and physical ability. At the start, he could not lift himself from his wheelchair but in June 2010 Kyle completed the last section of the C2C cycle ride using an arm bike. This change coupled with his ongoing dedication and continued positive attitude has been recognised and applauded by so many people across the area.

Coach of the Year (sponsored by Helmepark Ltd)
Wayne Brown - Wear Valley & Teesdale

Wayne, who is a UEFA B coach, has worked as a Community Coach in the deprived wards of Woodhouse Close, Heknowle and St Helens for ten years and his commitment to the young people is unprecedented. He has had a major impact on anti social behaviour in these wards and it can be safely said everyone knows him; this is the impact he has had not only through his coaching but to the community

Ian Johnson - Durham and Chester-le-Street

Ian has been involved with Brandon Cricket Club for 45 years, initially as a player but he has since been instrumental in saving the club from going out of business this year. He spends six hours a day preparing the ground during the season and the wickets are considered to be one of the best in the county. Ian is simply invaluable to the club, carrying out 80 hours a month of voluntary work.

Young Volunteer of the Year (sponsored by Northumbrian Water)
Megan Crombie - Easington

In September 09 Megan was diagnosed with ME which dramatically affected her swimming training. As gold Step into Sport ambassador she has worked with the SSP at festivals, tournaments, inclusion events, gifted and talented sessions, visited local primary schools and assisted in OSH clubs and has completed 200 hours of volunteering including assisting at the UK School Games.

Sports Club of the Year (sponsored by D&P Trophies)
Willington Cricket Club - Wear Valley and Teesdale

Willington Cricket Club has seen a remarkable turn around in the past 15 years, at one stage looking like the club would fold as it struggled to field a single senior men's team, however the club has developed in to one of the best in this region. As part of the children's development, promising players are sent to Durham Cricket Board's Player Pathway Program and this year saw 18 junior members (11 boys and 7 girls) make it through to their respective county squads.

Junior Sports Club of the Year (sponsored by Barr-Technical Solutions Ltd)
Deerness Valley Gymnastics Club (Tumbling Section) - Durham and Chester-le-Street

The club is at membership capacity and results at all levels show that it is now the most successful club in the Country with most National Squad members (18). The structure in place from age 5 years to 15 means that there is a strong future in the sport. 2 tumblers were selected for GB and competed at the World Championships in Russia November 2009.

Sporting Achievement of the Year (sponsored by What's On 4 Me?)
Alex Houston - Derwentside

Alex lives in Consett and started at Deerness High Performance Gymnastics Club when he was 9 years old. In the last year Alex has won a silver at the European Championships in Portugal. His season culminated in June 2010 achieving silver in the World Championships narrowly missing out on Gold through an unseen Russian error.

Contribution to Sport (sponsored by Durham University)
Barry Hudson - Durham and Chester-le-Street

Barry joined Durham Amateur Rowing Club in the early 1960s as a rower, with many successes at regional level, later being elected as captain in 1972. In 1997 Barry suggested the idea of enhanced facilities to meet needs of larger membership which became the focus of his life for the next 12 years. Throughout the main building project his determination to succeed saw him through periods when everyone else had given up and without his huge volunteer effort the club would not be in its current successful position.
