I was in my first year of Secondary School and we'd just finished a typical PE lesson which he'd been invited to attend. At the end of the lesson the coach turned to me and said, "You've got potential, would you like to join a running club?" I was 11 years old and had no real understanding of what that question meant. I'm glad I said yes, because that chance meeting with that volunteer coach changed my life forever. The impact of volunteers on grassroots sports continues to be invaluable and I'm delighted to be able to celebrate and recognise their commitment at the County Durham Sport Partnership Awards Dinner".
