Equality in Sport
The County Durham Sport Partnership is fully committed to equity in sport and physical activity and acknowledges the inequalities that currently exist within our region. The partnership also accepts the need to influence the culture and structure of sport to ensure that opportunities are made available to all.
Research shows that priority groups are often under represented within sport and physical activity, both in terms of their participation levels and the infrastructure. It is acknowledged that to achieve equity in sport and physical activity we need to:
- Take account of the needs of different groups or communities within a given priority group.
- Adopt the recommended practices of equal opportunities and managing diversity.
- Address issues of fairness in the workplace and the way in which services are allocated and delivered.
- Acknowledge and respect diversity.
By using 'Equality Standard for Sport' as a tool of improvement we aim to impact on all under represented groups, giving them the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity at all levels
